Welcome
Welcome to the Project to Enhance Research Literacy (PERL). Whether you are simply curious about Evidence Informed Practice (EIP) or charged with building an EIP curriculum from the ground up; you will find ideas here.
Beginning in 2005, seven integrative healthcare academic institutions were awarded grants through the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH, formerly NCCAM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for a program entitled: CAM Practitioner Research Education Project Grant Partnership.
The grants provided seed funding to create academic programs to enhance research literacy, and increase the use of research in clinical decision-making. Traditionally referred to as Evidence Based Medicine, each grantee began a journey to incorporate these principles into their curricula. While each path is unique, the underlying goals serve as a unifying concept we refer to as Evidence Informed Practice (EIP). The resources hosted through this site provide insight into making these cultural changes. Each institution provided these materials in the spirit of dissemination so that the broader community may benefit from completed work.
Each of the links in the Directory to the right allow you to step into the process from different stages of development. For example, to gain a broad overview of EIP begin with the Getting Started link. If searching for information on EIP academic programs or examples of course syllabi, begin with the Program Development link. The FAQ will provide answers to several common questions.
Several of the EIP resources referenced in this project were developed through funding from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH; formerly NCCAM) at the National Institutes of Health to the following institutions: Bastyr University (R25AT002876), National College of Natural Medicine (R25AT002878), National University of Health Sciences (R25AT002872), Northwestern Health Sciences University (R25AT003582), Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (R25AT002879), Palmer College of Chiropractic (R25AT003580), and the University of Western States (R24AT002880).
