2019

ACIH presence on ResearchGate (Nov. 4, 2019)
Interdisciplinary, collaborative research across the integrative health professions is central to advancing patient-centered, whole person care and holistic health. The ACIH Research Working Group (RWG) created an expressed goal to increase the connections, networking, and collaboration of integrative health researchers across disciplines and fields of interest. After discussing several options, the RWG decided to leverage the well-established professional networking site, ResearchGate (RG), to achieve this goal, elevate publications and identify new opportunities for research and funding collaboration. Whole Systems Research Methods in Health Care: Where are we now? (September 11, 2019). Nadine Ijaz, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow, Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto, joined ACIH Research, Education and Clinical Working Groups for a presentation / discussion about a Special Focus Issue On Multimodal Approaches In Integrative Health: Whole Persons, Whole Practices, Whole Systems. Dr. Ijaz lead a team that included RWG member Jennifer Rioux, PhD and past ACIH executive director John Weeks examining 41 WSR exemplars in a review entitled Whole Systems Research Methods in Health Care: A Scoping Review (JACM-Paradigm, Practice and Policy Advancing Integrative Health, The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, March 2019). The article, which received honorable mention for the 2019 ISCMR Scientific Article Prize, is available in open access. Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) among Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) Providers: Challenges, Facilitators, and Suggestions for Improvement (June 20, 2019) Anthony J. Lisi, DC, Beth Rosenthal, MPH, MBA, PhD, and Hannah Gravrand, DC, MS discussed results of their study about Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) among Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) Providers in Private Practice and Community Health Centers. Study results were accepted for publication in the Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice, Volume 15, June 2019, Pages 70-74. VA’s Whole Health System: What can be learned and applied to your practice? (June 13, 2019)
ACIH Clinical, Education and Research Working Groups presentation and discussion about the successes and challenges of the VA’s Whole Health program. The Whole Health program at the VA seeks to support patients in getting more of what matters most in their lives. Veterans in the program develop a personalized health plan based on their values, needs, and goals. This patient centered approach typically incorporates integrative health practices to work through challenges that are preventing Veterans from living a healthy life and achieving their goals. Follow-up to the NAM Non-Pharmacologic Approaches to Pain Management Presentation and Discussion (Feb. 13, 2019)
Belinda Anderson, PhD, LAc (RWG co-chair) gave a summary of the NAM Non-Pharmacologic Approaches to Pain Management event held in December 2018, and then Marcia Prenguber, ND (CWG co-chair) facilitated a discussion about what we can do with respect to collaboration, following up on the NAM event. Competency-Based, Time-Variable Education in the Health Professions (October 2018)
Deb Bushway, PhD, Interim President and CEO, Northwestern Health Sciences University, spoke with the EWG sharing her expertise about and experiences with Competency-Based Education (CBE). Slides are available here.

Interprofessional Collaboration and ACIH Discussion (September 2018)
Joint ACIH Clinical, Education, and Research Working Group discussion with these 3 questions: What opportunities do you see for collaboration between integrative healthcare practices? What current strategies within ACIH can be translated for successful collaboration between practices? What are the major care questions that could benefit from these collaborations? Attitudes and Knowledge Regarding Interprofessionalism Among Naturopathic Students Before and After a Year of Clinical Internship Education (April 2018)
Joint ACIH Research, Education and Clinical Working Group presentation and discussion. CCNM Research study with presenters Laura Tummon Simmons (Former Clinical Resident, The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine) and RWG member Kieran Cooley (Director, Research, The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine). Research literacy and the real world: Examples from Academic Institutions and Community Collaborations (March 2018)
Joint ACIH Education, Research and Clinical Working Group presentation and discussion. Beth Howlett, MAcOM, LAc  (EWG co-chair), Diane Mastnardo, BS, LMT (EWG member), and Candise Branum, MLS (Director of Library Services, OCOM) shared their experiences and opportunities for collaboration, followed by Q&A and discussion. The presentation and discussion covered Creating and sustaining research culture in the absence of funding; Research literacy and engaging students in research; Practice Based Research Networks (PBRN's); Resources and Opportunities for collaboration. Experience as an NCCAM F31 trainee (September 2017) 
ACIH Research Working Group presentation and discussion Steffany Moonaz, PhD, ACIH RWG and Board member spoke about her experience as an NCCAM F31 trainee. 

The concept of an "Academic Plan" in integrative health education (June 2017)

Systematic review for low back pain (June 2017)
Lisa Taylor-Swanson, MAcOM, PHD, ACIH RWG member, spoke about a systematic review project in which she was involved, for low back pain, followed by Q&A and discussion. The abstract "Systematic Review of Acupuncture for Low Back Pain: Efficacy and Clinically-Meaningful Change" is available here.

2016

Hospital Based Massage Therapy (HBMT) Competencies Discussion (September 2016) 
HBMT Task Force members invited interested parties, including respondents to a prior HBMT TF survey, to participate in a conference call discuss the draft HBMT specific competencies.  Dale Healey, DC, PhD,  Carolyn Tague, MA, CMT, MK Brennan, RN, LMT, and Beth Rosenthal, PhD, MBA, MPH, ACIH Assistant Director, presented and facilitated discussion among participants. 

Hospital Based Massage Therapy (HBMT) (September 2016)

Case Reporting Guidelines (September 2016) 
David Riley, MD and RWG member Martha Menard, PhD, LMT presented about case reports and facilitated discussion. The 11-slide presentation is available here.

LifeLong Ashby Health Center (June 2016)
ACIH Clinical Working Group presentation and discussion Bonney Lynch, LAc, CMT gave a brief presentation about integrating acupuncture and related services and primary care at LAHC and stimulated an active discussion about how to gather patient outcome data via EHR and other issues involved in integrative clinics. 

History, Context, Politics of Opioid Guidelines: Arya Nielsen (June 2016) 
Arya Nielsen, PhD, Director, Acupuncture Fellowship for Inpatient Care, Mount Sinai Beth Israel gave a terrific presentation stimulated by the lack of reference to integrative disciplines in the CDC Opioid Guidelines. References: References for talk on opioids and national policy re. evidence informed nonpharm therapies for pain,  Clarification of the Pain Management

PIHTA and Integrative Clinics Presentations (June 2016) 
ACIH Clinical Working Group presentation and discussion Jennifer Olejownik, PhD, MS, BA, Project Manager for the Project for Integrative Health and the Triple Aim at the Center for Optimal Integration spoke about a possible Integrative Clinic Webinar series held within the Working Groups and asked members what areas they might be interested in exploring.

Learnings from the ACIH Competencies for Optimal Practice in Integrated Environments (April 2016)
Stacy Gomes, EdD, MAEd, presented on the work that will be part of the ICIMH presentation in Las Vegas, and received good feedback from the group

 Preliminary Findings on Naturopathic-led Patient-Centered Medical homes (PCMH) (March 2016) 
Jennifer Olejownik, PhD, MS, Project Manager, Project for Integrative Health and the Triple Aim (PIHTA) - Center for Optimal Integration presented highlights from this NABNE-funded project on integrative Patient-Centered Medical Homes.

Introduction of Chiropractic Care into Missouri FQHCs: The Dawn of a New Era? (November 2015) 
Barry Wiese, DC, MHA from Logan University spoke with CWG members about his experiences introducing Chiropractic Care in FQHCs. The 17 slide presentation is viewable here

Interprofessional collaboration among integrative health and medicine providers in private practice and community health settings (update October 2015) 
In this brief presentation, Beth Rosenthal gives an update on this funded CWG research project investigating IPC in a sample of IHM providers from the five licensed disciplines.

Project to Enhance Research Literacy (PERL) Educator’s Package for Evidence Informed Practice (October 2015) 
Deb Hill facilitated a discussion for the Educational Working Group about PERL resources for educators, gathering significant input from many WG members. The 17 slides are viewable here

Former ACIH Executive Director John Weeks gave a very informative presentation to the Educational Working Group and facilitated discussion about IOM Global Forum activities in this approximately 30 minute recording

Identifying off-site clinics of CCAOM Members (September 2015) 
New CWG member Martin Kidwell spoke about a CCAOM project he is involved in, having to do with collecting information about off-site clinics of CCAOM members.

Preparing Students to be Practice Ready - Part II (Sept 2015) 
CWG members Ron Boesch, DC, DACNB, Dean of Clinics/Professor, Palmer College of Chiropractic and Michael Sackett, DC Dean, Los Angeles College of Chiropractic present Part II of the presentation given in June 2015 and answer questions about Preparing Students to be Practice Ready.

CAM in Military Community (June 2015) 
Viola Crowder-Moger, Director, Licensed Massage Therapy Program at Central Texas College joined us to tell us about her experiences providing CAM in the military community of Fort Hood, followed by a rich question and answer session with suggestions about how to incorporate CAM in a community.
